The Barbican and Guildhall School’s joint Creative Learning division delivers a broad programme across both organisations embracing music, theatre, dance, film and visual arts.

Creative Learning runs a number of ensembles for young people across the art forms which complements the work of the Guildhall Junior School and the Centre for Young Musicians. These ensembles perform frequently at events both within the Barbican and Guildhall School’s buildings in the heart of the City of London, and in East London and beyond.

The Barbican’s International Associate Orchestras deliver regular residencies in London where as well as full Orchestra and Chamber Concerts, they perform and lead education work in East London schools and communities as well as masterclasses with Guildhall School musicians.

From September 2013 the Barbican has been the recipient of funding from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation to support the establishment of an East London and City Cultural Partnership, working with the Music Hubs and local authorities in seven East London boroughs, to share practice and join up Music and Cultural Education Provision for Children and Young People in East London.

Creative Learning is committed to enabling both emerging and established artists to develop the range of skills required to work across settings including schools, communities and other collaborative environments.  The Barbican and Guildhall School’s work in this area includes professional development and laboratory opportunities for teachers, leaders and other practitioners, as well as the Guildhall School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
