City of London Sinfonia’s Meet the Music education and outreach programme was founded in 1988. Having been one of the first of such programmes to be established by a UK orchestra, it is now widely recognised as a leader in the field. Musicians from the Orchestra spend approximately 100 days a year making music with a wide range of groups, young and old, throughout the country.  At the heart of Meet the Music is the belief that creative music-making should be accessible to all. CLS aims to take music to those who might find the environment of the concert hall to be a barrier, whether geographically or socially, and to bring the fun and inspiration of live music into the community.

Meet the Music is divided into two main areas of work, Wellbeing through Music, including our projects in hospitals, care homes, hospices and other health settings; and Growth through Music, which includes work in schools, nurseries and other educational and community settings. In addition to these we run a family concert series Crash, Bang, Wallop! in London’s Cadogan Hall.

Each year, CLS musicians deliver workshops and informal performances for approximately 7000 children, young people and adults in a wide range of health and community settings.  A further 3000 people attend our family concerts each year.
