LONDON MOZART PLAYERS

The LMP was a pioneer in the field of orchestral community and education programmes. It has been embedded in its local community in the London Borough of Croydon and further afield for over two decades. 

The orchestra has developed an extensive programme of carefully targeted workshops and informal concerts in order to take live music out of the concert hall, and bring it to people of all ages and backgrounds who might not otherwise be able to access it. This recently included a series of composition workshops in local primary schools (START Project), as funded by The Prince’s Trust for Children and the Arts, a collaboration with the Classical Roadshow to produce the annual schools concert, and outreach work at a centre for adults with learning difficulties, Capable Communities – Equal People.

The LMP tailor projects for primary and secondary schools, special schools, day-care centres, residential and nursing homes, hospitals and hospices. Schools projects can be developed to link with the National Curriculum, and major composition projects have featured GCSE and A-level students as performers on the concert platform in major concert halls alongside the LMP.

The orchestra particularly welcomes the opportunity for dialogue, and to work collaboratively to build a project or series of projects in partnership with schools, education authorities, local/ethnic music groups and business partners.

The LMP’s extensive programme of work has been made possible with support from Croydon Council and numerous other public bodies, private trusts and individuals. All projects are subject to available funding.
